John Powell, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church in New Caney, died late Saturday, July 18, when he was struck by a semi while he was helping stranded motorists on the side of the road. Powell leaves behind his wife, Katherine, and four young children: Gunner, Bennett, Ada Kate and Reese. A GoFundMe has raised over $140,000 at publication time.
