Skaggs scheduled for evangelism conference

Renowned bluegrass and country musician Ricky Skaggs will be among the speakers and musicians appearing at the 2009 Empower Evangelism Conference Feb. 16-18 at First Baptist Church of Euless.

The conference will also include music from The Booth Brothers, Charles Billingsley, Curtis Brewer, Philip Griffin, and John McKay.

The winner of 12 Grammy Awards, a veteran of 37 years in professional music and the CMA Entertainer of the Year in 1985, Skaggs is known not only as a leading ambassador of the
bluegrass genre but also as a follower of Jesus Christ.

He has performed with musical headliners such as the late Bill Monroe, Emmylou Harris, Travis Tritt, the Dixie Chicks and Bruce Hornsby.

He has spent the last decade turning out mostly bluegrass albums through his own label, Skaggs Family Records.

In September 2007, Skaggs’ Kentucky Thunder band teamed up with The Whites for their first collaborative gospel album, “Salt of the Earth,” which earned a Grammy earlier this year.

Vocals were shared by Skaggs, his wife, Sharon White Skaggs, sister-in-law Cheryl, and father-in-law, Buck.
