“Burdened” Empower Conference Feb. 23-25

SBTC Director of Evangelism Nathan Lorick sees 2015 as a pivotal moment for the spread of the gospel in Texas.

“As I travel across our state, the consensus among pastors seems to indicate a strong sense of evangelistic renewal in our churches,” Lorick wrote in a letter to Texas pastors. “This is our time, and I believe God wants to do something incredible across Texas through our churches.”

Lorick hopes to fuel the fires of evangelism at this year’s annual Empower Conference, which will be held Feb. 23-25 at First Baptist Church in Euless, centrally located in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The SBTC has invited well-known personalities from across the country to speak, sing, preach and even laugh with conference attendees, all with the purpose of seeking and sparking a renewal in evangelistic fervor. That purpose spawned the conference theme, “Burdened,” which Lorick says reflects a statewide desire to reach the lost with the news of Christ’s salvation.

Among those set to speak are:

  1. Greg Laurie, pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, Calif., and founder of large-scale evangelistic Harvest Crusades
  2. Michael Catt, pastor of Georgia’s Sherwood Baptist Church–familiar to many as the church behind the production of the Facing the Giants and Fireproof films
  3. John Meador, pastor of First Euless and founder of the “Can We Talk?” evangelism strategy
  4. Jimmy Draper, president emeritus of LifeWay Christian Resources and former SBC president

Lorick says the SBTC will also launch a statewide evangelism strategy unlike anything seen in Texas in recent years during the 2015 conference.

“We’re really excited about this year’s conference,” Lorick said. “We think it’s going to be life changing.”
